Basic knowledge of ICL surgery for high myopia

    1. Can the ICL lens be placed inside the eye all the time? Will it stick to my own lens? The ICL material is a special patented product that can be implanted in the eye for many years without changing and will not stick to your own lens. On the contrary, our own lens will slowly become cloudy as we age, i.e. cataract, which will affect your vision in severe cases. 2.What if the patient does not adapt to the crystal after surgery? If the ICL lens is selected properly and the surgery goes smoothly, the patient will not feel anything. In special cases, even if the patient really does not adapt, the ICL lens can be removed and the patient can still wear the original glasses or choose another surgery. Therefore, ICL is “reversible”. 3. Will there be any light leakage because of the holes made in the iris? The new central hole type ICL V4c does not require a hole in the iris, so it avoids light leakage and does not cause pupil distortion after surgery. 4. Is there a possibility of getting cataract or glaucoma early after the surgery? Cataracts are an age-related disease, and everyone will get cataracts when they get old, and cataracts occur earlier and faster in highly myopic eyes than in normal people. Temporary high intraocular pressure that recovers after medication is not glaucoma), but because the probability of having glaucoma in combination with highly myopic eyes is much higher than normal people, and it is more difficult to detect in the early stage, it makes many people misunderstand that ICL causes glaucoma. Therefore, it is necessary to have a thorough and careful examination before surgery to exclude these diseases, or regular follow-up after surgery for early detection, all of which can be effectively controlled. In fact, well-controlled glaucoma can also be done with ICL surgery, but of course, it needs to be fully evaluated by doctors. 5.Does ICL surgery affect the birth of children? No. After ICL surgery, the birth of a child by normal delivery or cesarean section is not affected, as it was before the surgery. Of course, if you are highly myopic and have fundus problems or other diseases that make you unsuitable for delivery or pregnancy, you need to be judged by the obstetrician and ophthalmologist, which is a problem for highly myopic eyes, not a contraindication because of ICL surgery. 6. What preparations do I need to make before surgery? Can I still wear contact lenses? Before surgery, you need to stop wearing soft contact lenses for 1 week, hard RGP for 3 weeks and OK lenses for 1 month. Rest well before surgery, just relax, normal life, no special preparation. 7.Do I need to use eye drops in advance? How do I use them? What is the purpose? You need to use antibiotic eye drops in advance 1-3 days before surgery, mainly to prevent infection, generally commonly used are colorbidol eye drops, 4 times a day; non-steroidal eye drops, such as pralophine eye drops, 4 times a day, the intraoperative reaction and pain is more mild. 8.What tests are needed before ICL implantation surgery? How long can I usually schedule the surgery? (1) Routine eye examination: cornea, lens, fundus, intraocular pressure, etc. (2) Refractive examination: dilated eye examinations. (3) IOL determination: anterior chamber depth, eye axis, corneal curvature, horizontal corneal diameter, etc. (4) Others: such as pressure leveling, corneal topography, aberration, fundus OCT, corneal endothelium, etc. Pre-operative blood tests, UBM, and if it is determined that surgery is possible, communicate with the surgeon and determine the procedure and type of surgery. Then you can make an appointment for the surgery, receive your preoperative medication and instructions, and wait for the surgery. Currently, ICL without astigmatism is in stock in China and can be delivered in 2-3 days, but TICL with astigmatism needs to be ordered and the waiting time will be longer, usually 2-3 weeks. 9.How much is the cost of ICL surgery? Can I get partial reimbursement from medical insurance? At present, the new central hole type ICL V4c or “new crystal” in China is about RMB 28,000-34,000 per eye, and the “new crystal” TICL V4c with astigmatism is about RMB 34,000-39,000 per eye. The above prices are for reference only and may vary from region to region and from hospital to hospital. Currently, the surgery fee is not reimbursable by medical insurance. However, the examination fee of our hospital can be reimbursed by medical insurance.
