The recovery time of cartilage injury is mainly based on the severity of the patient’s injury, and cannot be generalized. For minor acute cartilage injuries, a certain amount of braking and fixation is required after the injury, and recovery is usually possible in 4-6 weeks. If it is a serious cartilage injury that affects the patient’s limb activity and function, surgery is usually required, and recovery is usually possible only 2 months after surgery. Because cartilage is not regenerable, if the injury is deeper and more serious, complete damage to the whole layer of cartilage will result in irreparable damage to the site, so surgery with chondrocyte culture transplantation is required, and recovery time will be longer, usually 6-12 months recovery period. Patients are advised to reduce activities and rest in bed during the illness to avoid further aggravation of cartilage injury. Cold compresses can be given within 24 hours of injury and hot compresses can be given after the acute period to promote absorption of swelling.
