How to remove cerumen embolism

Cerumen is caused by the cerumen gland in the external canal, and its secretion excretion collects in the external ear canal, forming some large hard lump-like material that completely blocks the external ear canal, which we call cerumen embolism. This method may damage the skin of the external ear canal and the patient may feel painful, so we rarely use it nowadays; secondly, we use some medications to soften the cerumen, such as phenol ear drops and sodium bicarbonate ear drops. These are the main methods. Of course, these methods are mild or even painless and do not cause any damage to the external ear canal and eardrum, so this method is the most common in our clinical practice.
