Is there a relationship between hearing loss and age?

Hearing loss has more causes and may be age-related if the patient is older, or it may be caused by cerumen embolism, for example. In the case of the elderly population, the hearing loss is usually age-related. As the hearing organs age, the symptoms of hearing loss can occur. Other causes of hearing loss include cerumen embolism, where earwax blocks the ear canal or adheres to the eardrum, which can be treated at the ENT department. Some patients may also experience hearing loss due to otitis media after catching a cold. Another more common cause is sudden deafness, which is an inner ear lesion caused by blockage of blood vessels in the inner ear resulting in insufficient blood supply to the inner ear and damage to the auditory nerve, leading to hearing loss, which is manifested as sensorineural hearing loss. If hearing loss occurs, patients are advised to visit the ENT department in a timely manner to clarify the cause of the problem and to carry out relevant treatment to avoid delaying the condition and affecting the treatment effect.
