A pregnant woman is at risk when a low lying placenta is present, but the most dangerous time is in the late stages of pregnancy when the baby may be delivered at any time, or in certain emergencies when the doctor needs to terminate the pregnancy by caesarean section, both of which may result in unstoppable haemorrhage, endangering the life of the pregnant woman and the foetus.
