Sciatica is a pain syndrome in the sciatic nerve pathway and its distribution areas (e.g., buttock, posterior thigh, posterior lateral calf, and lateral foot). The causes can be divided into two categories: primary and secondary. Primary sciatica is sciatica neuritis, which is rare in clinical practice; secondary sciatica is caused by some lesions of the sciatic nerve, and can be divided into dry and radicular. Dry sciatica is caused by the stimulation of the sciatic nerve stem, and its lesions are mainly located outside the spinal canal. The sciatic nerve is an important nerve tissue in the human body, and once it develops, the pain is very intense and can lead to immobility or even paralysis. So what are the specific symptoms of sciatica? 1, acute sciatica neuritis caused by sciatica symptoms back pain: acute onset of sciatica neuritis often first for the lower back pain and lumbar stiffness, a few days later there is intense pain along the sciatic nerve channel. Severe pain after walking and stretching: There are also cases in which the nerve has been stretched by walking or exercise for a few weeks before the onset of the disease, causing transient pain that gradually worsens and develops into severe pain. Radiating pain from the hip to the leg: The pain spreads from the hip or buttock down to the foot, and is severe in the medial aspect of the thigh, the middle of the back of the thigh in the posterior iliac foramen, the carpal fossa, the lateral aspect of the calf, and the lateral aspect of the dorsum of the foot. Nocturnal persistent dull pain: the pain is persistent dull pain with episodes of increase, and the episodes of pain can be burning and stabbing-like, often increasing at night. 2.Symptoms of radicular sciatica: Radicular sciatica is painful and radiating when coughing, sneezing and breathing. The pressure pain of the spinous process and transverse process of the lumbar spine is obvious, while the pressure pain at various points along the sciatic nerve pathway is mild or painless. 3.Symptoms of dry sciatica There is obvious pressure pain: In dry sciatica, there is obvious pressure pain, and pain can be caused when moving the affected limb to stretch the nerve or asking the patient to lie on his back for straight leg elevation of the affected limb. Slight muscle atrophy: The muscles innervated by the sciatic nerve are relaxed and slightly atrophied, commonly in the popliteal group and gastrocnemius muscle. The muscle pressure pain is obvious in the gastrocnemius and hallux valgus muscles. Numbness in the legs: abnormal sensations such as pins and needles, burning and numbness may be present in the lateral calf and dorsal foot area, but objective sensory disturbances are less common.
