Symptoms of an enlarged prostate

The course of prostatic hyperplasia develops slowly and can be asymptomatic in the early stages. With the aggravation of obstruction, accelerated development of lesions, combined infections and bladder stones, the symptoms will gradually worsen, mostly after the age of 50 may appear the following symptoms: urinary frequency and urgency: urinary frequency is the earliest symptom, more obvious at night. It is characterized by an increase in the frequency of urination and a decrease in the volume of urine each time. If there is no special reason, urinating more than 1 time at night is considered abnormal. Difficulty in urination: Progressive difficulty in urination is the most important symptom, typically manifested by delayed and intermittent urination, thin and weak urine stream with short distance, terminal dribbling, prolonged urination time, and a sense of incomplete urination at the end of urination. Urinary retention: when the obstruction is aggravated to a certain degree, the bladder loses compensation, urination cannot be complete, residual urine appears, and gradually develops into urinary retention, and serious cases may have hydronephrosis and renal insufficiency performance. The physical examination section reveals a median bulge in the lower abdomen and a cloudy sound on percussion. Urinary incontinence: It is usually a manifestation of late stage of prostatic hypertrophy. The patient is unable to control urine. Hematuria: It is a rare symptom of prostatic hypertrophy. Due to prostate hypertrophy, the blood vessels on the surface are angered and rupture during forceful urination, usually with little bleeding, occasionally hemorrhagic shock is seen. Later complications: prolonged difficulty in urination leads to increased abdominal pressure, which can cause inguinal hernia, prolapse and internal hemorrhoids. The clinical symptoms of prostatic hyperplasia occur mostly after the age of 50, so if you have frequent urination and progressive difficulty in urination, you need to go to the hospital to confirm the diagnosis.
