How can I treat red and sore eyes caused by welding?

The painful redness of the eye caused by welding, also known as electrophthalmia, is due to damage to the corneal epithelium caused by welding light (ultraviolet light), and can be treated with topical antibiotic eye drops to prevent infection and nutritional eye drops to promote repair of the corneal epithelium. If the pain is more pronounced, oral painkillers can be taken temporarily.
