Restricted opening of the mouth a few days after extraction of an impaction

There is no standardized time for mouth opening restriction after extraction of blocked teeth due to individual differences as well as different medical conditions. Most of the time, it takes about 3~5 days for mouth opening to be restricted. Facial swelling can be clearly seen around 3~5 days after extraction, and it is more difficult to open the mouth at this time. Because there is a traumatic surface after the removal of retained wisdom teeth, swelling is a normal phenomenon. Cold compresses can be applied at the beginning of the swelling, and anti-inflammatory drugs, such as metronidazole, can be taken to help reduce the swelling. Avoid talking all the time after tooth extraction, so as not to cause increased blood circulation and wound bleeding, do not lick the wound with your tongue. Don’t eat too hot, too cold, too sticky food within a week. Too cold and too hot will easily irritate the wound and cause bleeding. Sticky food will dislodge the blood clot and cause severe pain, which is not conducive to the recovery of the tooth. When there is obvious discomfort in the tooth extraction wound as well as increased bleeding, it is recommended to seek medical attention promptly. The use of medication should be under the guidance of a physician.
