Premature heartbeat due to potassium deficiency

Potassium deficiency is the result of a lower than normal blood potassium level obtained from a blood test. Hypokalemia can cause various types of arrhythmias, mostly premature ventricular contractions, and the human body depends on external intake of potassium, that is, from the diet. If you have a balanced diet, you should look for the cause of potassium excretion: do you have diarrhea or vomiting? Are you taking diuretics? Are there any kidney or adrenal diseases? As for the transfer of extracellular potassium into the cells, the following causes should be considered: hypokalemic periodic paralysis (a familial disease in which extracellular potassium is transferred into the cells); insulin application; and, less frequently, barium poisoning. Another regionally related cause of low potassium is called crude raw cotton oil poisoning, which is seen in some cotton producing areas. I don’t know how low your blood potassium is, but if your hypokalemia is severe, it is recommended that you look for the cause of your hypokalemia while taking potassium supplements (medication and potassium-rich foods such as bananas and green vegetables). Severe hypokalemia can lead to sudden death due to malignant arrhythmias and should not be taken lightly. It is also important to note that a normal serum potassium level with potassium supplementation does not necessarily mean that the blood potassium is normal, but it is necessary to recheck it several times, because in some patients with low potassium, although the extracellular blood potassium (i.e. the potassium from the blood sample) is normal, if there is intracellular low potassium, the extracellular potassium will be transferred to the cells and the potassium level will drop after a few days. If it is only due to an unbalanced diet, the potassium level will be normalized soon after medication and dietary improvement. If the low potassium level still occurs even after repeated potassium checks, the cause of the low potassium level needs to be identified.
