Does Wutong Tang treat diabetes?

Diabetes mellitus belongs to the category of consuming thirst in traditional Chinese medicine, and Wutong Tang can alleviate the symptoms of bloating, vomiting, diarrhea, dysuria (unruly urination), and edema caused by consuming thirst.
Wutong Tang is composed of ephedra, cinnamon sticks, dry ginger, half-summer, fine acerbic, white peony, licorice, tangerine peel, Houpu, citrus aurantium, chaihu, atractylodes macrocephala, poria, zedoary, ginseng, angelica, and chuanxiong, which is effective in evacuating the muscle and epidermis, facilitating the triple jiao, and regulating qi, and is a main treatment for disorders of qi, blood, and fluids.
There are various types of thirst, among which those with unfavorable qi and fluid metabolism in the triple jiao can be treated with Wutong Tang, whose manifestations include distension and pain in the chest and ribs, epigastric congestion and abdominal distension, vomiting and diarrhea, gastric pain and abdominal pain, dyspareunia, constipation, dysuria, edema, and a pale and fat tongue. Adverse effects of the drug include abdominal pain and diarrhea. Contraindications are not clear.
