What to do if your child has a fever

Fever in children can be caused by both infectious and non-infectious causes, so it is necessary to treat the cause of the fever on the one hand, and treat the fever itself to reduce the fever symptomatically on the other. For example, if the fever is caused by an influenza virus infection, anti-influenza medication can be applied, and if the fever is caused by a bacterial infection, antibiotic treatment can be applied, etc. When there is a serious bacterial infection, without the application of effective antibiotics, the fever may not be effectively reduced if there is any urgency. On the other hand, the treatment of the fever itself depends on the degree of the fever, the age of the child, or whether the child has any underlying illness. Physical cooling, warm water wipes, etc. can be given to the child, but do not cause further discomfort and do not let the child not get proper rest. Some children need to be treated with fever reduction. Commonly used are ibuprofen or acetaminophen. Of course, the medication needs to be applied at intervals of at least 6 hours. For fevers caused by non-infectious diseases it is more dependent on the treatment of the cause, physical cooling and medication to reduce fever can only help for a short time. Therefore, when a child develops a fever, it is important to first identify the cause of the fever and actively treat the primary cause. At the same time, symptomatic treatment should be applied.
