Facial nerve palsy is a common clinical condition and a common disease in the Department of Neurology, and sometimes several first-episode patients can be seen in one clinic day. Although there are many ways to treat this disease, patients may suffer from sequelae if they are not careful. The most common clinical problems are neurologic deficits of the facial nerve and facial muscle spasm. It is observed that these sequelae are closely related to the early treatment. The cause of facial muscle spasm is thought to be related to the “short circuit” after demyelination of facial neuritis, which is painful for the patients and has poor therapeutic effect. Some scholars believe that this is related to the early provocation of the facial nerve, the important reason for provocation is acupuncture, especially electroacupuncture. The early pathological changes of facial nerve inflammation are mainly edema of the facial nerve, and any measures taken to reduce the inflammatory edema will shorten the course of the disease and reduce the sequelae. Therefore, the use of acupuncture therapy, especially the lowering of needles on the face, is not recommended during the edematous phase of the facial nerve, and the use of electroacupuncture on the face is opposed. This is because, any excessive agitation during this period will exacerbate its pathologic changes and will not be beneficial for recovery. So when to use acupuncture therapy? It is recommended to use acupuncture therapy one week after the disease, after the facial nerve edema period, and it is recommended to use the terminal acupuncture points, such as: Hegu point and so on. This is because the theory of Chinese medicine is: “Facial mouth and Hegu closing”. Acupuncture is not recommended for facial points. However, early facial nerve palsy can be treated with facial acupoints and massage, avoiding gravity and violence! Massage can make local blood flow improve and promote recovery. In fact, acupuncture is two elements, including acupuncture therapy and moxibustion therapy. Moxibustion therapy is recommended in the early stage. Warm stimulation not only improves blood flow, but also warms the meridians and collaterals, soothing the meridians and activating the collaterals results in early recovery. The author in the long-term clinical practice found “Jianzheng” point, in the treatment of the early may wish to pointer the point, observation of nearly three hundred cases of facial nerve palsy patients, none of the sequelae.
