At present sneezing is not used as a symptom to distinguish wind-cold or wind-heat in Chinese medicine. To determine wind-cold and wind-heat in TCM, first of all, a wind-cold patient is afraid of cold and wind, has a dry mouth but does not want to drink water, coughs, coughs up phlegm, sneezes, has a runny nose and a white nasal discharge. Wind-heat patients are afraid of heat, sweat, dry mouth, thirst, want to drink water and like to drink cool water, cough yellow phlegm, runny nose, which belongs to wind-heat type of cold. So sneezing is seen in wind-cold and wind-heat, and cannot be used as a sign to determine wind-cold or wind-heat.
