What are oral dental implants?

Dental implants are not really the same as natural teeth, but rather a “prosthetic” restoration with implant material embedded in the alveolar bone (implant) on which dentures are made. It is a method of restoring missing teeth based on the substructure implanted in the bone tissue to support and secure the upper dental prosthesis. It consists of two parts: the lower supporting implant and the upper dental prosthesis. Dental implants are usually made of artificial materials (e.g., metal, ceramic, etc.) and are surgically implanted in the tissue (usually in the upper and lower jaws) to obtain a strong retention of the bone tissue, which is connected to the upper restorations by special devices and methods. Dental implants can achieve restorative results that are very similar to natural teeth in terms of function, structure and aesthetic effects, and have become the preferred restoration method for more and more patients with missing teeth. Applicable and contraindicated populations 1. Applicable populations: The amount of bone in the alveolar bone of the missing teeth in the oral cavity is sufficient, and the gap between the upper and lower teeth cannot be less than 0.5 cm during occlusion. 2. Contraindicated groups: (1) Those whose general health condition is not suitable for surgery or cannot tolerate implant surgery. (2) Skeletal system disorders, such as osteoporosis, etc. (3) Long-term use of special drugs that affect blood clotting or tissue healing ability. Severe systemic immune diseases. Patients with excessive addiction to alcohol and tobacco, neurological and psychiatric disorders. (4) Acute inflammatory period in the oral cavity. (5) Soft and hard tissue lesions in the implant area. (6) Patients restricted by the local conditions of the oral and maxillofacial area. Technical method 1. Before treatment, fully communicate with the doctor and draw up the extraction time according to the specific situation for teeth without treatment value under the exclusion of pathological state and infection. 2. Design: design the implant plan according to the CT data acquisition, the 3D model reconstruction of the bone, and the different bone conditions of each person. 3.Preparation of the implant socket: according to the pre-designed template, the implant of the appropriate length and the corresponding series of drills are selected according to the bone volume of the alveolar bone, using the rapid drill of the dental implant machine, rinsed with a large amount of saline, firstly, the hole is positioned with the round drill, followed by the gradual expansion of the hole with the split drill and the navigation drill, and then the upper mouth is enlarged and the wound is rinsed. 4. Preparation of the threads: switch to the slow-speed drill, also rinse with plenty of saline to cool down, and prepare the threads on the bone wall of the implant socket with a tap. 5. Implant placement: The implant is slowly placed in the prepared socket and carefully screwed with a special tool so that the top edge of the implant is level with the bone surface. 6. Suture the incision. 7. Put on the crown: After the implant nail has healed closely with the alveolar bone, it is usually necessary to wait for 3-6 months after implant placement before performing the second-stage surgery and installing the porcelain crown to complete the whole procedure of dental implant surgery. Risks and complications 1. Bleeding: usually the wound will stop bleeding after a few days, but if it bleeds more than once, you should go to the hospital to take hemostatic drugs. 2. Bruising: This usually disappears after about 2 weeks. The edema caused by the prolonged surgery will also get better after about 2 to 3 days, and medication can also be used. 3. Damage to the mandibular nerve: When artificial dental implants are done in the lower molar area, sometimes the mandibular nerve is damaged and the lower lip and jaw may have a temporary sensory abnormality. However, most of them can return to normal after a few weeks or months. Those who cannot recover should seek immediate medical attention. 4. Infection: If bacteria erode to the surgical site, the wound may be infected, therefore, antibiotics and other drugs should be taken in advance for early treatment, so that the wound can recover quickly. 5, loose dental implants: When the degree of resorption of the alveolar bone is too large or the therapeutic ability of the alveolar bone decreases and the artificial tooth root cannot be closely connected with the alveolar bone, first of all, the implanted artificial tooth implant should be removed and a larger diameter artificial tooth implant should be planted in the same site. 6, facial swelling: generally belongs to the normal situation, you can local hot compress or physiotherapy to relieve. Precautions 1. Pre-operative precautions (1) Before the operation, you need to remove caries, root remnants, treat oral diseases and oral cleaning. (2) Take antibiotics as prescribed by the doctor one day before surgery. (3) Women should avoid menstrual period. 2.Post-operative precautions (1) Place a gauze pad on the implant site and bite it tightly for half an hour and then spit it out, do not touch the implant area with your hand or other things. (2) Eat a semi-liquid diet after surgery. To prevent local bleeding, you can eat cool food and apply local cold compresses within 24 hours, which can be changed to local hot compresses after 24 hours. (3) Pay attention to local cleanliness after dental implant surgery, you can brush your teeth after surgery, rinse with 1/5000 furacilin solution, and take oral antibiotics as prescribed by the doctor, and intravenous antibiotics if necessary. (4) Check if there is any local bleeding and numbness of the mouth and lips on the second day after surgery. (5) The stitches were removed 7 days after surgery, and the contralateral chewing was available after the stitches were removed to prevent wound dehiscence. (6) 3-6 months postoperative follow-up for second-stage surgery, and 2 weeks after the follow-up to take the mold for crown repair.
