Vaginitis does not cause urinary tract infection in most cases, but severe vaginitis and urethritis can affect each other. The urethra is located in front of the vagina and the urethral opening is very close to the vaginal opening. In case of vaginal inflammation, pathogenic bacteria can easily infect the urethra and then cause an upstream infection, which can lead to cystitis and acute pyelonephritis in severe cases. The typical symptoms of vaginitis are abnormal leucorrhea, odor, vulvar itching, etc. In severe cases, fever may be present. The diagnosis is usually confirmed by a leucorrhoea examination, and the type of causative organism can be identified and cured by vaginal douching. If severe vaginitis is followed by urinary tract infection, frequent, urgent and painful urination may occur, and in case of bladder infection, discomfort in the pubic symphysis area and hematuria may occur. Continuing upstream, acute pyelonephritis may occur, with typical symptoms of chills, high fever, and pain in the kidney area. The diagnosis can be confirmed by performing a mid-stage urinalysis to find the causative organism, combined with abnormal white blood cells in the blood and normal morphology of both kidneys on ultrasound. If this is the case, the patient may need to go to the hospital for intravenous drip antibiotics. According to the results of the leukorrhea discharge test, choose the appropriate antibiotics, such as metronidazole, aminoglycosides, macrolides, etc. At the same time, you can use topical erythromycin ointment to reduce itching and pay attention to keeping the vulva clean. Mild urinary tract infections can drink more water and urinate more, and most of the symptoms can disappear. In severe cases, norfloxacin and levofloxacin can be chosen as treatment. Those who present with acute pyelonephritis should first reduce fever and use aspirin, followed by fluid supplementation, while sulfonamides and quinolones can be used for treatment and attention to bed rest. The urethral opening, vaginal opening and anus are close to each other, which can easily lead to cross-infection. When wiping urine, you should wipe from the front to the back, and when wiping feces, you should wipe downwards, avoiding the vaginal opening. In case of vaginal inflammation, you should avoid taking a sitz bath to prevent the spread of infection.
