Poorly controlled atherosclerosis of the abdominal aorta may have serious consequences.
Atherosclerosis of the abdominal aorta is a localized manifestation of systemic atherosclerosis in which atherosclerotic lesions occur in the aorta and cause narrowing or even complete occlusion of the lumen of the abdominal aorta, leading to ischemia or necrosis of the tissues or organs supplied. Smoking, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes mellitus, and obesity are important factors leading to the development of this disease.
Atherosclerosis of the abdominal aorta carries a risk of abdominal aortic dissection, which can be life-threatening. When abdominal aortic atherosclerosis occurs, avoid smoking, high oil and high fat diet, control blood pressure, blood glucose, blood lipids, control the progression of the disease, regular review, and go to the hospital if there is any discomfort.
