The main way of transmission of HPV-16 is through sexual contact, which is the main mode of transmission. Other routes such as indirect transmission, through swimming pools, sharing bathtubs, bath towels and dressings, can also be transmitted, and direct mother-to-child transmission cannot be ruled out. Most women have the highest rate of HPV infection during their sexually active years, with the peak age of infection being between 18 and 28 years old. Currently, about 70% of women in China have been infected with HPV, and the rate of HPV-16 infection among cervical cancer patients is about 56%. HPV, known as human papillomavirus, is a virus related to cervical cancer, and there are more than 160 subtypes of HPV, of which 14 are related to cervical cancer, which are called high-risk infections. Among these 14 high-risk infections, HPV-16 and HPV-18 are the most common causes of cervical cancer, and about 70% of cervical cancers are related to HPV-16 and HPV-18. In squamous cervical cancer, the prevalence of HPV-16 infection is about 56%. If a high-risk type of HPV-16 is found to be positive, a biopsy of the cervix is recommended to clarify the presence of cervical lesions.
