Paediatric febrile convulsions are common in children aged 6 months to 6 years and occur early in the fever, e.g. within 12 hours of fever, and last for a few seconds to 10 minutes. Children present with grand mal-like convulsions, rarely multiple consecutive episodes during a single febrile episode, followed by brief drowsiness, irritability or confusion, but recovery of consciousness is rapid.
