How to identify sciatica in Chinese medicine

Sciatica belongs to Western medicine, but it can be categorized as “paralysis” and “lumbago” in Chinese medicine, which can be referred to paralysis and lumbago for diagnosis. Take paralysis as an example, it can be divided into wind-cold-dampness paralysis (wind, cold, dampness three kinds of evil invasion of the human body leading to paralysis of the limbs), wind-dampness-heat paralysis (often manifested as burning, pain, redness and swelling of the joints and muscles, etc.), phlegm and stagnation of paralysis, and deficiency of the liver and kidney. 1. Wind-cold-dampness paralysis: (1) Paralysis: pain in the joints and muscles of the limbs, unfavorable flexion and extension of the joints (abnormal function of joint extension and bending), which may involve more than one joint, and the pain is wandering. (2) pain paralysis: limb joint pain, pain is more intense, the pain has a fixed place, joint flexion and extension is unfavorable, local skin or cold feeling, cold pain is very much, the pain is reduced by heat. (3) paralysis: limb joints, muscle pain, heavy, pain, joint movement is unfavorable, skin numbness, or swelling, hands and feet heavy. (2) Rheumatism-heat paralysis: pain in the joints of the limbs, unfavorable movement, local burning heat, redness and swelling, which is relieved when it gets cold, and there may be subcutaneous nodules or erythema, which is often accompanied by fever, bad wind and sweating. 3. Phlegm stasis and paralysis: long duration of the disease, swelling and tingling in the joints of the limbs, with pain in a fixed place, and more pain at night; or the skin of the joints is purplish, swollen, and hard when pressed, with persistent numbness or heaviness in the limbs. 4. Liver and kidney deficiency: paralysis for a long time, swollen joints, stiffness and deformation, flexion and extension of unfavorable, thin muscles, waist and knee soreness and weakness (lumbar and knee soreness and weakness); or fear of cold limbs cold (fear of cold, cold limbs) and so on.
