Cervicitis, also known as cervical erosion, is a common disease among women and is also the most frequently mentioned disease in gynecological examinations, and is classified as mild, moderate or severe according to the size of the “erosion” surface. In fact, most of the “cervicitis” is a physiological manifestation of the effect of estrogen, mostly in women of childbearing age, pre-pubertal and post-menopausal women due to low levels of estrogen and rarely cervical erosion. The majority of cervical erosion has no symptoms and can only be detected by a gynecological examination. If cervical erosion is combined with a bacterial infection, there is often excessive leukorrhea, odor, or low back pain. The main purpose of the gynecologist’s examination of the cervix is not whether you have cervicitis, but whether you have precancerous lesions (or endocervical neoplasia) or cervical cancer. Pre-cancerous lesions are screened by cervical exfoliated cells, and the commonly used methods are: Pap cytology and liquid-based cytology. Pap cytology has a slightly poorer accuracy, but is less expensive and is suitable for screening a large number of people, while TCT is the newest method through computerized filming, which has a high accuracy, but is more expensive and not easily popularized. Treatment of cervicitis: the treatment uses external suppositories, medication can reduce the symptoms of leucorrhea, but it is difficult to make the surface of the cervical erosion “healing”, for moderate or severe cervical erosion or infertility due to cervical erosion can be used in the physical therapy of laser, microwave, ablation, and so on, a course of one to two can be cured. For women who have not had children, after excluding cervical cancer and endocervical neoplasia, it is best to wait until after childbearing to treat simple cervical erosion, because a very small number of women may be infertile due to scarring of the cervical canal after cervical physiotherapy. If cervical cancer or endocervical neoplasia is detected, it must be treated according to the doctor’s instructions.
