The treatment options for pain caused by tumor compressing the cervical spine are mainly divided into non-surgical treatment and surgical treatment.
1. Surgical treatment: For pain caused by tumor compression on cervical spine, surgical treatment is usually preferred, because if the tumor compresses the cervical spine, it usually indicates that benign tumors have increased significantly or are malignant tumors themselves, and the pain can only be relieved effectively by removing the foreign body tissues and relieving the tumor’s pressure on the vertebral body or nerves through surgical operation.
2. Non-surgical treatment: If the tumor has already metastasized to many places in the body and cannot be treated by surgery, non-conservative treatment is usually chosen to alleviate the symptoms, such as oral anti-tumor drugs to slow down the development of the tumor, radiotherapy to reduce the volume of the tumor, and the use of drugs such as tramadol and morphine to alleviate the pain of the tumor in advanced stage, and so on.
If the tumor compresses the cervical vertebrae to produce pain symptoms, it is recommended to carry out standardized treatment as early as possible to reduce the adverse effects of the disease. All of the above medications should be used under the guidance of doctors, avoiding self-medication.
