“As a common clinical symptom, pain is a signal or warning that the organism has been hurt or suffered from a disease, reminding people to take timely action to avoid the danger and eliminate the foci of the disease, which is beneficial to the human body to maintain good health, and then it is a “good pain”. But a lot of neuropathic pain, to the human body to bring intense and prolonged pain, and can lead to dysfunction of various body systems or even abnormal, has lost the warning role, become an obstacle to people’s normal life and work, and bring great pain at the root, then it is “bad pain”. Many patients suffering from chronic intractable pain, especially cancer patients, have to end their lives in severe intractable pain. Although the occurrence of pain is closely related to the damage of body tissues and organs, it is not directly proportional to the degree of damage. That is, there is damage does not necessarily cause pain; on the contrary, there is pain can not indicate that the damage is serious, it is very likely that no cause can be found, and even sometimes damaged tissues have completely healed, but the pain is still there. Modern medical research shows that severe chronic pain (such as cancer pain, intractable neuralgia, etc.) is itself an extremely important issue, it is often more unbearable than the primary disease, more harmful to the human body. Minor pain can lead to mental anguish, and even affect the patient’s work and diet, the quality of life is greatly reduced; severe cases can lead to dysfunction of various body systems, decreased immunity and induced a variety of complications, and even lead to pain disability or threat to the patient’s life. With the continuous improvement of people’s living standards, people are paying more and more attention to their health status. However, most people are only familiar with the clinical medical model of the past, when a certain part of the body appears to be sick, they go to the corresponding departments such as internal medicine, surgery or gynecology and so on. However, there are many patients who, despite repeated and careful treatment by the relevant departments, still suffer from pain and lose confidence in treatment and life. With the development of medical science, a new discipline for the diagnosis and treatment of pain – clinical pain science has been introduced to provide a shortcut for those suffering from pain diseases to seek medical treatment. We would like to remind those patients who suffer from pain for a long time that they should go to a pain specialist clinic when they are not satisfied with the results of the treatment they have received. At present, most of the large hospitals in China have set up specialized pain treatment institutions – pain clinic, and actively introduce advanced pain diagnosis and treatment theories and technologies from developed countries, and carry out specialized management of pain diseases and pain problems encountered in the clinic, and have accumulated a relatively rich clinical experience in pain treatment, and have achieved obvious results. For common diseases such as neurovascular headache, chronic neck, shoulder, lumbar and leg pain, and herniated intervertebral discs, through minimally invasive interventional analgesia, nerve block, nerve stimulation, medication and other comprehensive therapies, we can effectively improve the blood circulation of the local pain, remove inflammatory metabolites, and interrupt the vicious cycle of pain, so as to achieve the analgesic effect of “symptomatic and fundamental treatment”. The effect of analgesia can be achieved by “treating both the symptoms and the root cause of pain”. For postherpetic pain, trigeminal neuralgia, burning pain and other intractable pains, the application of specific neurotrophic or blocking techniques and nerve modulation stimulation, etc., through blocking the nociceptive conduction pathway, improving the state of neurotrophic and adjusting the function of nerve conduction, have achieved a satisfactory analgesic effect. For cancer pain, the application of minimally invasive techniques of implanting morphine pumps or highly selective blocking and destroying the nerves that conduct pain can obtain a more perfect medium- and long-term analgesic effect and minimize the common side effects, which plays a positive role in alleviating the fear, anxiety, depression and other adverse emotions caused by cancer pain, increasing appetite, improving sleep and improving the quality of life.
