Breasts, you’re still beautiful (I)

If we have been students and faculty or have operated on the same table, if you have consulted with me or attended one of my scientific lectures, perhaps you remember my saying – “Breasts, the second face of a woman”. This is one of the deepest feelings I have had in my thirty-year career as a female surgeon. Every day we look in the mirror to admire our beautiful faces and we use different skin care products to take care of our faces. But how many of us are as familiar with our breasts as we are with our eyes? Dear women, let’s take care of our second face. Li Bili, Department of Breast and Thyroid Surgery, The Affiliated Hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical University From today onwards, I will continue to tell you stories about breasts. In fact, when a girl reaches the age of twenty, she should take this class – to understand her own breasts, to know what a normal breast should look like, what breasts are composed of; at different ages of life, what physiological functions the breasts will have, what changes are physiological; what manifestations are signals of disease, and how to stay away from those cancer-causing factors. Learning breast self-examination and developing the habit of going to the hospital for regular medical checkups is also a part of life that a mature woman should have. We were once girls, but we did not do these; we are mothers, we still do not do. Because no one has systematically taught us, because we have never thought – how far is breast cancer from us? Material abundance, spiritual diversity, changes in work habits and rhythms, has modern life brought nothing but happiness and joy? Don’t you realize that under the flashing neon lights, breast cancer is sneaking up on us? Is breast cancer more common in the city than in the countryside? Breast cancer in big cities tops the list of female malignant tumors? Breast Cancer. We are hearing these three words more and more. Why? It’s a question we all coincidentally ask. Why is breast cancer increasing? Why do we get breast cancer? Can we stay away from breast cancer? What can we do if we get breast cancer? Are our beautiful breasts about to be taken away by cancer? Tears, or tears, are they silent words, accusations of cancer and worries about the future? What does each drooping teardrop want to say? Is it aggression? Is it anger? Is it fear? Is it confidence? Is it strength? Awakening? It’s the first thing many women feel when they have cancer! Loneliness and helplessness like never before invade their fragile hearts. Who will save them? Is it us? It’s everyone around them who cares about them. In fact, caring for them is also caring for ourselves, because we share the same second face with them – breasts. (To be continued)
