Patients with novel coronavirus infection may have abnormal blood tests, usually in the form of lymphocyte count and C-reactive protein. However, patients should be aware that routine blood tests are used to determine the presence of bacterial or viral infections, and do not differentiate between bacterial and viral types. Therefore, it is not possible to determine whether a patient is infected with a novel coronavirus based on routine blood tests alone. If the patient only has symptoms of low fever and cough, a chest CT test is required in addition to the blood test.
