There is no evidence that pets such as dogs and cats can be infected with the New Coronavirus, but it is prudent to place pets under quarantine for observation if they have been clearly exposed to patients with New Coronavirus pneumonia. If you are concerned about your pet being infected with the new coronavirus, it is recommended that you try not to take your pet out during the outbreak and wear a leash when necessary to avoid it touching or licking the suspected source of infection. Washing your hands with soap and water after contact with your pet can reduce the chance of transmission of common bacteria between pets and people. Disinfecting your pet’s limbs with medical alcohol and disinfecting the body surface with a mild pet-specific body disinfectant at home is sufficient and need not be an excessive concern.
