Many patients’ family members and patients with known conditions will choose to give up treatment once they know that what they are suffering from is advanced cancer (including leukemia and various kinds of sarcomas) and that they have lost the chance of surgery. In fact, this kind of understanding is very wrong. Tumor treatment is comprehensive. With the development of medicine, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and other treatment means have been playing an increasingly important role in the treatment of malignant tumors. Cancer can be treated and even cured. First, chemotherapy Chemotherapy should be called chemical anticancer drug treatment, referred to as chemotherapy. Chemotherapy was produced in the 1940s, and after nearly 60 years of development, it has become an important means of anti-tumor treatment. After chemotherapy, some tumors will have different degrees of remission and the life of patients can be prolonged. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia, Hodgkin’s lymphoma, Burkitt’s lymphoma, choriocarcinoma and several other malignant tumors can even be cured by chemotherapy. Some other malignant tumors can also be completely cured after shrinking to a certain degree by chemotherapy drugs and then treated by radiotherapy or surgery. In recent years, new chemotherapeutic drugs have been introduced, and the combination of several drugs has been launched, and the efficacy of chemotherapy for various solid tumors has been improving. Especially, the efficacy of local chemotherapy (interventional therapy) infused through arterial catheter is greatly improved due to the significant increase of local drug concentration in the tumor. In our department, there are examples of liver cancer being cured by chemoablation after interventional therapy in order to destroy the tumor tissue. The use of “pro-tumor” substances combined with chemotherapeutic drugs to carry chemotherapeutic drugs into the tumor has also been studied in recent years. Drugs that promote the differentiation of tumor cells to benign cells have also been studied, and have achieved encouraging results in the treatment of certain types of leukemia. Chemotherapy that focuses on neovascularization to inhibit tumor growth and metastasis and chemotherapy that promotes apoptosis to accelerate tumor shrinkage are also being studied. Bone marrow stem cell transplantation, as an important supportive measure for anti-cancer chemotherapy, is being carried out gradually. It is believed that chemotherapy will play an increasing role in tumor treatment. Radiotherapy is a method of killing cancer cells by using rays. After the energy of radiation enters into the tumor cells, it can cut off the genetic material in the nucleus of cancer cells, i.e. the long chain of DNA, which dominates the division and proliferation of cancer cells and maintains their malignant behaviors, into fragments, so as to make them lose the ability to divide and proliferate and die gradually. Nasopharyngeal cancer, cervical cancer, lymphoma and other malignant tumors are quite sensitive to radiation therapy and have good curative effects. In recent years, due to the development and application of new kinds of rays, such as electron beam, proton, photon, etc., the curative effect of deep tumors within the same area has been greatly improved; due to the improvement of radiation therapy equipment, such as conformal radiotherapy, etc., the rays can be more accurately focused on tumor tissues, reducing the damage to the surrounding tissues, which can obviously increase the dosage and greatly improve the curative effect. Biological therapy Biological therapy, formerly known as immunotherapy, is a general term for the use of anticancer cells, anticancer factors produced by cells, and vaccine therapy to improve the patient’s anticancer immunity. This kind of treatment is different from radiotherapy and chemotherapy, which is based on improving the patient’s anti-cancer immunity to achieve the purpose of anti-cancer treatment. Generally, the toxic side effects are small and it is often used after surgical treatment, radiotherapy and chemotherapy to restore and improve the patient’s immune function to consolidate the therapeutic effect or to play its role as a part of comprehensive cancer treatment. At present, it is difficult to expect that a single application of biological therapy can produce a good therapeutic effect. Commonly used cytokines include interferon, interleukin, thymic peptide, tumor necrosis factor, etc. Commonly used immune cells include NAK cells, TIL cells, etc. The former are isolated from the patient’s body and used to restore and improve the patient’s immune function. The former is a therapeutic method to isolate some lymphocytes from the patient’s body and incubate them with interleukin in vitro to improve their anti-cancer potential and then infuse them back into the patient’s body. The latter is a therapeutic method in which lymphocytes infiltrated in the patient’s removed tumor tissue are isolated and incubated in vitro before being infused back into the patient. These methods have been applied in clinical practice with some efficacy. Anti-tumor tumor seedling is a method that hopes to stimulate the patient’s anti-tumor immunity by injecting it into the human body after the patient’s tumor tissues cut off still retain their antigenicity through inactivation treatment. Physiotherapy With the development of medical imaging, most of the cancerous tumors in human body can be accurately localized, and several lesions, size, depth and whether there are important blood vessels and nerves in the vicinity can be known by heart. Therefore, in recent years, physical treatments for cancer such as cryotherapy, microwave therapy, laser therapy, radiofrequency therapy, ultrasound focused therapy, etc. have been launched, which are really effective in destroying localized cancer tumors. Of course, cancer is a systemic disease, and it is difficult to cure completely with this treatment, but it is beneficial to destroy the tumor as much as possible, alleviate the symptoms, change the ratio between the organism and the tumor, restore and improve the anti-cancer ability. If these methods can be well combined in the comprehensive treatment of cancer, it is very valuable. Fifth, molecular targeted therapy As the name suggests, targeted therapy is to selectively inhibit cancer cells and effectively cure malignant tumors without harming normal cells. At present, a variety of molecular targeted therapy drugs have been listed on the market, single drug or combined with chemotherapeutic drugs, which have made promising progress in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer, refractory breast cancer, gastrointestinal mesenchymal sarcoma, etc., and are strongly showing its role in tumor treatment, showing very good prospects. Chinese medicine treatment Chinese medicine treatment of cancer or take the method of activating blood and removing stagnation or use the formula of clearing heat and removing toxins, has achieved certain curative effect. The treatment of Chinese medicine can improve the body’s ability to resist diseases and help overcome cancer by supporting the positive and dispelling the evil. If it is combined with surgical treatment or radiotherapy, it will complement each other, reduce the toxicity and increase the efficacy, which can further improve the efficacy. In conclusion, with the development of medicine, there are various methods to treat malignant tumors. According to different individuals, choosing appropriate means of comprehensive treatment can prolong the survival time of patients, reduce the pain caused by cancer, and even completely cure cancer. The idea that cancer is equal to terminal illness can only delay the time of treatment and make the patient lose the hope and opportunity of survival.
