Since the beginning of autumn, I have been receiving inquiries from parents about their children’s coughs, and this continues into winter. In this weather that makes it impossible to evaluate, children have more coughs, which makes it very painful for many parents. Let’s write briefly about the misconceptions about the management of external coughs in children in winter. The first misconception: In Chinese medicine, there are two types of coughs, one is external cough and the other is internal cough. For adults, there are many internal coughs, such as coughs caused by kidney deficiency, when nourishment is sufficient; coughs caused by liver fire, when diarrhea removes liver fire is sufficient, such coughs have little to do with external evil, or they are originally physically problematic and the external evil is the trigger, and finally the external evil is gone and the cough This is called a cough of internal injury in Chinese medicine. However, there are not many cases of internal injury in children with normal growth, so they should be considered more often from external sensations. However, many parents are not aware of this situation and still use the same treatment for internal coughs, so this cough is always bad. Children with external cough, if the initial misuse of Chuanbei, this cough will often become long-term, and even cough a winter. Now I found that many parents have used the method of stewing snow pear with Sichuan scallops, which did not use the right place, but led to problems. Remember, Chuanbei is generally used only when the external evil is not prevalent, and it is best not to use it when you have just suffered from an external cold. In fact, both Chuanbei and Zhebei are medicines I use frequently, but I usually only use Zhebei at the beginning of an exopathic cough, and Chuanbei is often used only when the cough has been long and is already dry and hot. The second misconception is that I am in a hurry to stop the cough. In fact, coughing is a normal reaction of the body. When suffering from an external sensation, the onset of external evil is the main problem, and coughing is a reaction of the body trying to expel the external evil. When many parents hear that their children are coughing, they feel that they must stop the cough! This is like trying to put out a fire and instead of putting out the fire, you look at the smoke and take a fan to disperse it. This analogy must be remembered, otherwise it is easy to make a mistake, at this time should put out the fire, rather than scattering smoke, the fire is extinguished, the smoke naturally scattered. At this point, the parents’ feelings are understandable, but if they are too eager, it will cause deviation in the direction. At this point, the focus should be on lifting the external evil.
