What are the rules of Chinese medicine in treating cough?

According to Chinese medicine, the lung is a delicate organ, the main organ of the five viscera, the master of qi, the master of propagation and surrender, and the master of regulating the water channels. Therefore, although cough is a minor problem, it contains a very profound philosophy of Chinese medicine. The treatment of cough should be based on the physiological function of the lungs, i.e., to get rid of the disease and to follow its physiological characteristics without harming its proper function. Here, I would like to present my experience with coughs. The rules of Chinese medicine for treating coughs: Xuanfa: The lung qi, which is connected to the surface of the skin and resides in the upper jiao, has the function of propagating fluids and spreading them to the five organs. Pay attention to this feature of the lungs when treating coughs. When the lung qi is undeclared, the Xuan method should be used. Lung qi not being declared is most often seen when external evils occlude the skin surface or when other reservoirs are involved in the lung metaphorically speaking, liver qi is stagnant. Descending method: Lung Qi does not descend and reverts upward, resulting in cough. Coughs caused by internal injuries are often seen with Lung Qi reversing upward, which is a metaphor for Liver Qi and Stomach Qi not descending leading to a cough with Lung Qi not descending. Qing methods: Qing differs from clearing heat, clearing fire, clearing dryness, clearing the lung, clearing the heart, clearing the liver and clearing the gallbladder. There is a difference between clearing and nourishing and clearing and draining. Warming method: Warming method for cough differs from warming the lungs, spleen and kidneys. Tonic method: The tonic method for coughs should be based on the qi, blood, yin and yang of the three reservoirs of the lungs, spleen and kidneys. The main methods are to cultivate the earth to produce gold, to tonify the kidneys to benefit the lungs, to nourish the kidneys and nourish the lungs. Run method: Run has the meaning of moistening, nourishing and moistening dryness. There are differences between cool and warm moistening. Collection method: The collection method is mainly for coughs that do not heal for a long time or coughs where the kidney qi does not converge. The collection method can also be used temporarily for new coughs that are abiding and intense. Sweating method: The sweating method is the method of relieving the surface, mainly for exogenous coughs with surface symptoms, with the distinction between pungent-cool and pungent-warm. The lower method: The lung and the large intestine are in close proximity to each other, and the generalization of the large intestine is helpful to the purification of the lung qi. The application of the above-mentioned methods should be based on the properties of the disease and the pathology of the lungs, and should not be used by the camera.
