What tests are needed for colonic injury?

Bowel injury requires a standing abdominal radiograph, abdominal CT, routine blood work, calcitoninogen, C-reactive protein and, if necessary, laparotomy, and even more attention to the patient’s vital signs. Patients with a history of abdominal trauma should be alerted to the possibility of colonic injury. If colonic injury cannot be ruled out clinically, or is suspected, relevant investigations should be performed and monitored continuously if necessary to prevent any missed diagnosis.
