For relatively minor injuries, patients with simple repair will generally not have an impact on their quality of life. For patients with greater trauma, extensive surgery, GI reconstruction and fistulae, the quality of life will be affected, mainly in terms of post-treatment intestinal adhesions and the impact of stoma care on the patient. By getting out of bed early and returning the stoma after recovery, most patients are able to resume a normal life.
