The best time to debride an open fracture is within 6-8 hours after the injury. Of course, the earlier the debridement, the better, the less bacteria will grow inside, and the less chance of infection will occur in the future. If the patient misses this time, between 8 and 12 hours, the patient’s wound can be debrided according to the degree of contamination and the color of the blood in the wound. After 12 hours, the wound will be cleared by irrigation only, and no more sutures will be used later, that is, the wound will be left open to facilitate the flow of secretions, and then the wound will be allowed to heal naturally after the complete reduction of secretions.
