For most women who experience weak contractions, after treatment with general management, medication or caesarean section, the birth is usually successful and does not affect the mother or the baby significantly.
However, if a woman with weak contractions is not treated in time, it can lead to a range of serious complications such as neonatal pneumonia, neonatal sepsis, ischaemic-anoxic encephalopathy and intracranial haemorrhage in the newborn, which can adversely affect the normal development of the foetus after birth.
