In mild cases, the deformity has no clinical symptoms and has no effect on cardiopulmonary function. However, the deformity of the thorax due to the convexity of the sternum affects the aesthetics and patients often experience mental burden, resulting in low self-esteem, anxiety and introversion.
Those with heavy deformities may experience shortness of breath and weakness due to the smaller thorax, which compresses the cardiopulmonary function, and some patients also experience recurrent upper respiratory tract infections and asthma.
