Does ulcerative colitis cause mucus stools?

Mucus stools can occur in ulcerative colitis, but most ulcerative colitis symptoms are typical of mucus-purulent stools and are usually accompanied by persistent or recurrent diarrhoea, abdominal pain, urgency and heaviness. If you have any of the above suspected symptoms of ulcerative colitis, you should consult a doctor promptly, and the diagnosis can be confirmed with medical history and laboratory tests, colonoscopy and intestinal mucosal biopsy.
