Mucus stools may not necessarily be early stage of bowel cancer, but may be related to poor dietary habits and infections. Bacterial dysentery, amebic dysentery, ulcerative colitis, intestinal schistosomiasis, Crohn’s disease, irritable bowel syndrome, etc. may cause similar symptoms and require further examination in hospital to rule out the possibility of bowel cancer.
