The soreness in the left leg from the buttock to the foot may be due to other causes of sciatica or sciatica caused by a herniated disc in the lumbar spine. The branches of the sciatic nerve can extend into the dorsum of the foot, so diseases such as infectious sciatica can cause sciatica to cause foot pain, and a herniated disc can compress the nerve and transmit the pain to the foot causing foot pain.
