Can chronic colitis be cured?

Chronic colitis is a chronic, recurrent, multi-inflammatory disease of the intestine with a very diverse pathogenesis, the direct cause of which is not yet clear. The disease can be cured, but it is difficult, and is more often managed by lifestyle changes or medication, as well as by preventing recurrence. The disease has a chronic course and most patients have recurrent attacks, with a better prognosis for those in mild and long-term remission. Patients should take adequate rest during the active period, eat liquid or semi-liquid food during the acute activity period, and then change to nutritious and easily digestible food after the condition improves. The patient should take the medication as prescribed by the doctor and follow up regularly, do not stop the medication without authorization, and those with recurrent disease activity should be mentally prepared to take the medication for a long time. Patients with extensive colitis of 10 years or more and left hemicolectasis of 15 years or more should undergo surveillance colonoscopy once every two years.
