The first breast duct foreign body removal by lactoscopy in China

A few days ago, I received a case of a patient referred from a provincial hospital in Inner Mongolia, the patient is in the lactation period, because the milk ducts do not work and consulted a private hospital, perform pig bristles to unblock the milk ducts, about 8 cm long pig bristles fell into the milk ducts, can not be discharged, if the pig bristles can not be removed, it is very easy to cause inflammation of the breast, thus affecting breastfeeding, the patient’s body and mind and the healthy growth of the child caused a great impact. If the pig bristle cannot be removed, it will easily cause inflammation of breast, which will affect breastfeeding and have a great impact on the patient’s body, mind and child’s healthy growth. Zhang Gangling of Breast Surgery Department of Baotou Cancer Hospital could not point out the specific breast ducts where the foreign body existed, so he could only investigate them one by one. After 3 hours of careful search with the endoscope, a white pig bristle was found in the grade III duct 8cm away from the nipple in the 9th duct, and was removed with a biopsy hook through the endoscope. Thus, the patient avoided the pain of open surgery. This method has a quick recovery, little damage, and allows normal breastfeeding after surgery without hospitalization. It also reduces the financial burden of the patient. Breast duct endoscopy is now the preferred means of diagnosing the etiology of nipple overflow. It is safe, easy to operate, less traumatic, intuitive, less painful for the patient and less complications. This is the first time in China that a foreign body is removed through endoscopy, and it marks our leading position in the treatment of breast duct disease in China.
