Heartburn is a common symptom of cardiovascular disease. After a hospital visit, the doctor may perform blood tests, cardiac ultrasound, 24-hour ambulatory electrocardiogram and cardiac enzyme profile, as appropriate, to find out if there are any organic lesions in the heart.
In addition to cardiovascular disease, hypoglycaemia, hypotension and hyperthyroidism can also cause heartburn. Tests such as blood pressure, blood sugar and thyroid function may be performed at the doctor’s discretion to clarify the cause.
