A fragility fracture is a fracture that is caused without trauma or minor trauma. The population susceptible to fragility fractures is the elderly. Fragility fractures, also known as osteoporotic fractures, are the most serious consequence of osteoporosis. Osteoporosis has become a global public health problem, and its complication, fragility fracture, can even be disabling and can seriously affect the quality of life of the patient. Osteoporosis, how to diagnose Osteoporosis (OP) is a systemic disease of bone metabolism that predisposes to increased bone fragility and susceptibility to fracture. The clinical manifestations of this disease are generally peripheral pain, reduced height, hunchback, fragility fractures and respiratory compromise. The medical diagnosis of osteoporosis is generally based on the decrease in bone mass, bone density or the occurrence of fragility fractures. Bone density test results are more important for the early diagnosis of the population. To identify primary, secondary or idiopathic osteoporosis, reference is made to age, gender, medical history, clinical manifestations, laboratory tests and imaging examinations. Three diagnostic conditions for fragility fractures Fragility fractures usually occur in the spine, medulla and forearm. It is one of the criteria for the diagnosis of osteoporosis. Three conditions are required for the diagnosis of fragility fracture: absence of definite violent injury; evidence of fracture imaging; and exclusion of other causes of fracture, such as secondary osteoporosis and bone tumors. Imaging methods for fragility fracture include X-ray, CT, MRI and isotope bone scan,
MRI and isotope bone scan. For older adults over 65 years of age, frontal and lateral X-rays of the thoracic and lumbar spine should be routinely taken to determine the presence of vertebral fragility fractures, preferably in women over 60 years of age, as women are more likely to have osteoporosis. A fragility fracture is often not visible as a fracture line and is mainly characterized by compression deformation of the vertebral body; CT scan lateral localization images and DXA lateral imaging can also be used to detect fracture deformation of the vertebral body. The presence of a fragility fracture suggests an increased risk of new fractures in the future. Types of drug therapy The current drug therapy for osteoporosis is mainly calcium, vitamin D
and bone resorption inhibitors (which include estrogens, selective estrogen receptor modulators, bisphosphonates, etc.) and other three major classes of drugs. However, long-term use of hormone replacement therapy increases the chance of developing breast cancer, coronary heart disease, and other clinically used chemically synthesized drugs all have certain side effects.
