Marfan syndrome is an autosomal dominant hereditary connective tissue disorder with familial clustering.
It affects connective tissue throughout the body, including the bones, ligaments, eyes, cardiovascular, pulmonary and nervous systems, with the most common sites of damage in the disease being the cardiovascular system, bones and eyes, with a very high natural mortality rate.
It is also known as spider finger (toe) syndrome because the involvement of the bones makes the fingers elongated and spider finger (toe) like, or as Marfan syndrome and limb elongation syndrome.
