  People mainly understand “rheumatism” as a type of disease related to wind, humid weather and geographical environmental factors. For doctors, rheumatism refers to a type of disease that mainly affects joints, muscles, bones and soft tissues around joints, such as tendons, ligaments, bursae, fascia and other parts of the body, and the scope of rheumatism is significantly wider than what people understand. Most rheumatic diseases can affect the whole body, including the brain, heart, lungs, kidneys, blood system and other important organ lesions, and in serious cases, life threatening. With the advancement of technology and people’s awareness, rheumatism has become a relatively common disease. However, because some patients do not have timely and regular diagnosis and treatment, they often go to the rheumatology department only when the disease is more serious, and then the disease is irreversible, resulting in serious consequences. So, what happens when you should go to the rheumatology department for consultation?  1, joint swelling and pain: most of the rheumatic immune disease manifestations have joint symptoms, mainly swelling or pain, the section at the same time, the skin around the joint red and hot, the time can be long or short. Can be wandering or fixed, but also can be intermittent episodes. Joint swelling is more common in the joints of the extremities, mostly in the elbow, wrist, metacarpophalangeal and interphalangeal joints in the upper extremities, and in the knee, ankle, metatarsophalangeal and interphalangeal joints in the lower extremities. Swelling may occur in one or more joints, or symmetrically. It is commonly seen in rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gouty arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, infectious arthritis, etc.  2. Skin and mucous membrane symptoms: unexplained rash, skin irritation after sun exposure, oral ulcers, vulvar ulcers, skin ulcers, eye congestion, reticular bruising, skin nodules, erythema, etc. Some of them are painful and unbearable. The ulcers of rheumatic diseases are mainly distributed in the skin and mucous membrane areas, such as the oral cavity, vulva and digestive tract, etc. Their depth and area vary, and are often accompanied by pain or bleeding. Rheumatic diseases such as leukoplakia, systemic lupus erythematosus, vasculitis, and Wright’s syndrome are the most common. Erythema is mainly seen in lupus erythematosus, lipofuscinosis, erythema nodosum, vasculitis, dermatomyositis and other diseases.  3. It is most common in scleroderma, mixed connective tissue disease, systemic lupus erythematosus, various vasculitis, etc.  5.Dry performance: dry mouth mainly manifests as little saliva, and in severe cases, teeth fall out. Dry skin manifests as less sweating, skin flaking, etc. It is common in dry syndrome.  6, myalgia muscle weakness: if there is muscle pain weakness in the limbs, or accompanied by purple around the eyes (panda eyes), rash on the front chest and back. Blood sampling for liver function aminotransferases, elevated muscle enzymes, etc., suggest dermatomyositis, polymyositis, metabolic myopathy and tumor-induced myopathy, etc.  7, lower back pain and alternating hip pain: mainly manifested as waking up with back pain at rest, especially in the second half of the night, accompanied by stiffness when getting up, sometimes accompanied by swelling and pain in the knee, ankle and heel, which improves significantly after activity. Attention should be paid to ankylosing spondylitis, undifferentiated spondyloarthropathy, etc.  8.Multi-system or organ problems: mainly manifested as, heart, liver, kidney, lung, brain, hematological system, skin and joints and other multi-system damage, the longest seen in systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic vasculitis, systemic sclerosis, etc.  9. Other manifestations: such as myocardial infarction, cerebral infarction, epileptic seizures in young people; recurrent unexplained miscarriage for more than 2 times; recurrent auricular and nose redness and pain; recurrent purulent or bloody nasal discharge; recurrent salami-like changes in fingers and toes; hard, swollen and tight skin with reduced texture; generalized pain with insomnia and cold and fearful limbs.
