Side effects from cancer treatment vary from person to person. The site of treatment, the treatment used and the length of treatment, as well as the dose used will determine whether side effects will occur. Thankfully not everyone will have adverse reactions, and most side effects will go away with the end of treatment. Some of the newer medications do a good job of managing these side effects. Some dietary problems are caused by the treatment itself. Also, patients may have some eating problems because of their own emotions, such as worry, anxiety or concern. Decreased appetite and nausea are two of the most common signs of feeling nervous or scared inside. Once you start treatment and have a better understanding of what is going to happen and how you should react, the eating problems caused by stress will improve. Please keep in mind: 1. When you are able to eat, try to eat three meals or snacks that are rich in protein and calories. Many patients have a better appetite in the morning, so take advantage of this and eat more in the morning. Consider bringing your main meal earlier in the day and replacing it with a liquid food later in the day if you don’t feel like eating much. 2. If you feel sick and can only eat one or two things, don’t give up and keep eating until you can eat something else. Try using some liquid alternative foods to add extra calories and protein. 3, some days when you simply can not eat anything, please do not worry about it. Do something to make yourself feel better and eat as soon as you can. If your inability to eat does not improve for several days, tell your doctor immediately. 4. Try to drink enough fluids, especially on those days when you don’t want to eat. For most adults, the best amount of water to drink is 6-8 glasses per day. 5. Decreased appetite or poor appetite is one of the longest-running problems in cancer and its treatment, regardless of the cause. When you can’t eat, you can try to use liquid or powdered food such as instant breakfast as an alternative food. ①You can try eating smaller and more frequent meals. ② Always have a snack ready. ③Even if you don’t want to eat solid food, drink a drink every day. ④If possible, have something to eat before going to bed. ⑤Changing the shape of food can be it looks more delicious and help you eat more. ⑥Try some soft, cold or frozen foods. ⑦Take the time you feel comfortable and eat more. ⑧When you eat, try to drink as little as possible, but choose to have a drink after or 30-60 minutes after your meal.
