Difference between a liver nodule and a tumor

Liver tumor belongs to one kind of liver nodule. Whether it is liver nodule or liver tumor, the key is to distinguish whether it is benign or malignant, which can be differentiated by symptoms, laboratory, imaging and other tests. 1. Symptoms: Most of the benign liver nodules have no clinical symptoms, and most of them are detected by ultrasound during physical examination without history of hepatitis; while malignant liver nodules have pain and discomfort in the liver area, and most of them have history of liver cirrhosis, hepatitis B or hepatitis C. 2. Laboratory tests: benign liver nodules usually have normal liver function and no elevation of alpha-fetoprotein, while malignant liver nodules usually have abnormal liver function and elevated alpha-fetoprotein. 3. Imaging examination: on enhanced CT and MRI, benign liver nodules usually have no enhancement and clear boundaries, while malignant liver nodules usually have enhancement and are of the “fast-in-fast-out” type, and the boundaries are not clear. If patients find liver nodules during examination, it is recommended that they should consult a doctor in time, and under the guidance of the doctor, after completing the relevant examinations to determine whether the nodules are benign or malignant, and then standardize the treatment.
