Prolactinomatous pituitary adenomas, if used, require long-term medication, and during long-term treatment a few patients develop sensory disturbances, peripheral arterial disturbances (e.g., end limb ischemia), and reversible pallor of the fingers and toes caused by cold, especially in patients with Raynaud’s disease. Occasionally, arterial spasm and gangrene have been reported. Exacerbation of angina pectoris, bradycardia and transient arrhythmias (bundle branch block) have been reported with bromocriptine. A few cases of hypertension, myocardial infarction, seizures, stroke, and psychiatric disturbances have occurred with bromocriptine when used to inhibit lactation after delivery. Retroperitoneal and pleural fibrosis have been documented in patients on long-term treatment (several years) and at doses of 30 mg or more per day. It is also clearly stated in this drug insert that “women of childbearing age who wish to become pregnant should discontinue treatment with bromocriptine mesylate tablets immediately after pregnancy has been confirmed”.
Patients with pituitary adenoma who become pregnant after discontinuation of bromocriptine mesylate tablets should be monitored closely throughout the pregnancy and periodic visualization is necessary.” So are you married? Have you had any children? If so are you planning to have another one? If you are planning to have children, surgery is recommended because many pituitary tumor patients can control their hormone levels with medication, but after pregnancy, many patients are worried about the effect of medication on their children and ask to stop the medication. Therefore, if patients do not have a childbirth plan, they can use the medication, and then operate when the hormone cannot be controlled. Of course, if the size of tumor is not large and the increase of hormone level is not serious, you can use the medicine first for observation. If the size of tumor is not large and the increase of hormone level is not serious, the medicine can be used for observation first. After pregnancy, the drug can be stopped. Many patients have not experienced serious adverse effects.
