Benign pituitary tumors can also recur. The purpose of treatment of pituitary tumors is to relieve the presenting symptoms such as pressure, headache or endocrine symptoms, menopause, lactation, infertility, and a host of other manifestations. After treatment, if the pituitary tumor is found to be benign, there is still a possibility of recurrence, but it will take much longer, some will recur after 5 years, some will recur after 10 years. Unless the pituitary tumor has been excised very cleanly during the surgery and there is no trace of residue, recurrence will not be considered, but this is very unlikely due to the abnormal anatomical location of the pituitary gland. Therefore, for benign pituitary tumors, a CT of the head should be done every 3 months, and if the recurrence occurs again on review, early detection and treatment are needed.
