What is transcranial magnetic stimulation?

Transcranial magnetic stimulation is a treatment by generating electric current through the charge of a capacitor, which causes time-varying current to flow into the coil, generating a time-varying magnetic field and inducing a current in the tissues to excite or inhibit certain tissues. Magnetic stimulation is painless, non-invasive and safe. It is commonly used in our department to treat patients with sleep disorders, effectively reducing the symptoms of listlessness, depression and loss of appetite caused by sleep disorders. This treatment device is also used for post-stroke speech disorders, cognitive disorders, and mood abnormalities. Stimulation of the spinal cord can also improve patients’ swallowing disorders and urinary/bowel dysfunction.
