The four “ones” in a reasonable diet for patients with cirrhosis

Patients with cirrhosis have significantly reduced digestive function, coupled with the existence of varying degrees of esophagogastric fundic varices, which can easily be combined with gastrointestinal bleeding. The dietary principle for patients with cirrhosis is to eat mainly soft foods such as rice and noodles, supplemented by high quality protein and high vitamin foods, and low salt and fat, and to eliminate rough and hard foods. Following this dietary principle, the following four “ones” can be included in the patient’s daily diet, which will be the icing on the cake in terms of nutrition. A banana Banana is a tropical fruit, easy to eat, rich in nutrients, balanced, and easy to digest and absorb. Each 100 grams of peeled banana pulp can provide 91 kcal, including 1.4 grams of protein, 0.2 grams of fat, 20.0 grams of carbohydrates, 0.9 grams of crude fiber, 9 mg of calcium, 31 mg of phosphorus, 0.6 mg of iron, carotene, thiamin, niacin, vitamin C, vitamin E and rich trace elements of potassium, magnesium and selenium. From the perspective of Chinese medicine, bananas are sweet and cold in nature, which can clear heat and moisten the intestines, promote intestinal peristalsis and unblock the intestinal tract. Patients with cirrhosis need to keep their bowels open to reduce the absorption of intestinal toxins and avoid the occurrence of hepatic encephalopathy, so eating bananas has a multipurpose effect, and it is also important to recommend bananas to patients with cirrhosis. Of course, bananas contain a certain amount of sugar and should not be consumed by patients with diabetes. The storage temperature of bananas should not be too low, below 12℃ will blacken and deteriorate, the best storage temperature is 15~20℃. A glass of fresh milk Fresh milk is the most complete, highest nutritional value and the most popular dairy beverage, its taste is delicate, easy to absorb, and contains various nutrients needed by the human body, the most important of which is very rich in protein, which contains 8 essential amino acids for the human body. Each 100 grams of fresh milk contains 2.7-3.7 grams of protein, 3-5 grams of fat and 4.5-5 grams of lactose. Other trace elements are calcium, phosphorus and iron, and vitamins are vitamin B1, vitamin B2, nicotinic acid and vitamin C. Each 100 grams provides 69 kcal. Drinking a glass of fresh milk (about 200-300 ml) every morning can meet 10% of the body’s calorie requirements and 40% of the body’s requirements for various trace vitamins. The essential amino acids in milk help synthesize liver proteins and help regenerate and repair cells in diseased organs; lactose helps regulate intestinal flora, maintain a good functional state of the intestine, and promote the absorption of calcium, magnesium, zinc and other metal ions; the calcium and phosphorus ratio in milk is appropriate and easily absorbed, so drinking milk is the best way to supplement calcium. Patients with liver cirrhosis have various metabolic disorders, and milk can supplement the deficiency. An egg An egg is an excellent natural food for humans, and like milk is an inexpensive source of protein that is extremely nutritious. An average sized egg is about 50-60 grams, containing 7-8 grams of protein and 6-9 grams of fat. The protein is mainly albumin and ovalbumin, which contain the 8 essential amino acids and are very similar to human protein, and are easily absorbed by the intestine. The fat is mainly concentrated in the egg yolk, which is also very easily absorbed. Egg yolk is rich in lecithin, steroids, lecithin, calcium, phosphorus, iron, vitamin A, vitamin D and B vitamins. These components can promote liver metabolism, increase liver protein synthesis and reduce ascites and lower limb edema caused by hypoproteinemia. Egg yolk is also rich in lecithin, which can make the cholesterol and fat particles in the blood smaller and in suspension, preventing their deposition in the arterial blood vessel walls from atherosclerosis. The consumption of eggs for cirrhotic patients should be mainly steamed, boiled or made into soup, not fried or deep-fried. A cup of green tea (or black tea) Green tea and black tea are made with different processes, but they contain basically the same nutrients, including water-soluble vitamins, trace elements and amino acids. Green tea contains more vitamin C and vitamin B than black tea, with 200-500 mg of vitamin C per 100 grams of green tea. These vitamins can be directly absorbed and utilized through tea drinking. Tea contains phosphorus, magnesium, sulfur, iron, manganese, zinc, selenium and other trace elements are necessary for human metabolism, drinking tea can help metabolism and improve the detoxification function of the liver. There are more than 25 kinds of amino acids in tea, among which isoleucine, leucine, lysine, phenylalanine, threonine and valine, which are essential amino acids for human body. Tea also contains theophylline and caffeine, has a wake-up and refreshing, promote digestion and swelling diuretic effect, which can play a good therapeutic role, especially for patients with ascites and lower limb edema.       Of course, because of theophylline and caffeine, tea should not be too strong, otherwise it will produce adverse stimulation of the stomach. Whether to drink green tea or black tea, should be based on personal habits, in general, summer and autumn should drink green tea to quench thirst, winter and spring should drink black tea to warm the stomach and nourish the heart.
