Controlling blood sugar alone is not enough for diabetics

Comprehensive treatment for diabetes includes diabetes health education, diet therapy, exercise therapy, medication therapy and blood glucose testing. Patients with diabetes should learn about diabetes, attend diabetes health seminars regularly, be appropriately active, adhere to medication and be tested regularly. According to the latest survey information, it is expected that the number of people with diabetes in China has exceeded 110 million, making it the number one country in the world with diabetes, and the control of diabetes is not optimistic and the problem of complications is prominent. The goal of diabetes treatment is to enable people with diabetes to achieve maximum health, reduce complications, avoid disability, extend life expectancy, and enjoy the same quality of life as people without diabetes. How to reduce diabetes complications? How can people with diabetes live longer? The currently internationally accepted approach is to achieve full compliance with blood pressure, lipids and blood glucose standards for people with diabetes through comprehensive treatment. Comprehensive treatment of diabetes includes diabetes health education, diet therapy, exercise therapy, medication and blood glucose testing. Diabetic patients should learn diabetes-related knowledge, often attend diabetes health lectures, appropriate activities, adhere to the medication and regular testing. At present, the incidence of hypertension, hyperlipidemia, coronary heart disease, cerebral thrombosis, renal complications and eye complications is high among diabetic patients in China, and three out of every four diabetic patients have diabetic complications, so the situation is very serious. Diabetic patients do not know enough about diabetes, they do not know the danger of diabetes and prevention methods; they do not know how they should be treated properly when they have diabetes, they listen to drug advertisements; during the treatment, they do not adhere to the treatment up to the standard, which leads to the occurrence of diabetes and complications. The treatment of diabetes must strictly control blood glucose, however, just controlling blood glucose is not enough, it must be comprehensive treatment and comprehensive attainment: quit smoking, control blood pressure, control blood lipids, control blood glucose, apply aspirin, control diet, otherwise it is difficult to prevent, treat and reduce the complications of diabetes, reduce the incidence of disability in diabetic patients, and prolong life expectancy becomes an empty word. We use a palm to indicate the comprehensive treatment of diabetes, the most important of which is smoking cessation, and we use the thumb to indicate that all diabetic patients must quit smoking. Blood pressure in diabetic patients should be controlled to at least 140/90 mmHg or less. The blood pressure control of diabetic patients should be preferred to the pulmonary antihypertensive drugs, such as captopril, enalapril and lenopril, because these drugs not only have antihypertensive effects, but also protect the heart, kidneys and eyes of diabetic patients. The requirement of blood lipids is higher for diabetic patients than for ordinary people. The most important control of blood lipids is to control LDL cholesterol, because lowering LDL cholesterol can prevent coronary heart disease and cerebral thrombosis. It is enough to control LDL cholesterol at 3.1 mmol/L in general patients, but friends with diabetes should lower LDL cholesterol to at least 2.6 mmol/L or less, and the lower the better. The blood glucose of diabetic patients should generally be controlled below 7 mmol/L for fasting blood glucose and below 10 mmol/L for postprandial blood glucose; glycated hemoglobin should be tested once every 3-6 months, and glycated hemoglobin should be controlled at less than 7%. Of course, the goal of blood glucose control should vary from person to person, and the blood glucose control can be slightly relaxed for patients who are older and have heart disease or cerebral thrombosis. Diabetic patients should generally take metformin, unless your doctor thinks you are not suitable for metformin because of liver or kidney reasons. This is because in addition to lowering blood sugar, metformin can also protect the heart and prolong life. Metformin is the most effective, least side effect, and least expensive diabetes treatment available. If your doctor thinks you have a higher risk of cardiovascular disease and need to take aspirin, please insist on taking it for a long time under the guidance of your doctor to prevent heart attack and brain attack. Of course, controlling your diet is the foundation of diabetes treatment. Diabetic patients should eat less desserts, drink less sugary drinks, eat less fatty meat, fried food, and eat less egg yolk, animal offal such as pig liver, pig intestine and other foods with high cholesterol. You should eat more vegetables, fruits, whole grains, soy products, nuts, vegetable oils and other foods as appropriate. If your body allows, diabetic friends should exercise for half an hour every day, such as brisk walking, jogging, etc. Finally, I would like to remind you that you must beware of false drug advertisements. Ninety percent of all drug advertisements are fake, and the vast majority of them are money scams. Please be sure to go to a regular hospital and never stop and change your medication on your own.
